Sharks training camp begins

Checked out Day 1 of Sharks training camp today. Pretty neat. Free to the public. Not a ton of people show (maybe 350-400 people) because Hockey has yet to really catch on in the U.S. But it's cooler this way because it has an intimate feel to it when you are there. You just walk into the rink and go up to the glass and you can watch the Sharks practice. You can even hear the coach telling them what to do on the ice. Also, when the players get on and off the ice they don't seem to mind signing autographs for fans that do show up. I am excited for the season to begin. I took a few pics, but spaced out when I was packing my stuff the day before and I did not bring the optimal lens setup. Oh well, guess I will have to go again to get some better photos next time.

Another meeting with Reed. This time he was impressing my folks. Thanks to Jessie for coming out to my parent's house to show Reed off. He's a funny little character.
Sorry I have not posted in a while. I got a real-type job + commute. So now I'm not doing as much stuff as I'd like (including photos) because I'm being squeezed into the "9 to 5" mold of society, and literally squeezed into the commute between cars. All that being said, I'm glad I have an income during this economic downturn. Hopefully things will get better soon for everyone.

I like Red Stripe.

Extremely sad to see NIN is calling it quits on touring. Trent was nice enough to have an open camera policy at all of the shows for this "final" tour. So Vince and I brought our cameras and telephoto lenses. Luckily, we had decent seats (1st section in the middle, but all the way at the back of the section). The entire crowd was standing throughout the set. All of these shots were taking using LiveView on my 40D and holding the camera up over the heads of the people in front of me.

Been a while since I have made a post. Here's a picture of a flower that I took while walking around outside. Changed it a bit via photoshop to give it a "studio" look because, well.. why not? I don't have a studio but with digital images, nearly anything is possible.

For those of you who do not know who Far is, I highly recommend you check them out. They were a band that I listened to quite a bit starting in highschool and throughout college. But they broke up as a band back in the late 90s. I was so excited to hear that after almost 10 years they are back together and playing a live show in San Francisco. I went with my girlfriend, roommate, and met up with several of my old buddies from the East Bay area. It was really a great show. And great to reconnect with a few old pals. I recommend you check out and support this awesome band at www.thebandfar.com.

A quiet San Francisco last evening

Last night I went out with one of my buddies to shoot the Golden Gate Bridge at night. Unfortunately, the city of San Francisco is deciding to not light up the bridge at night (energy conservation, I think).
We ended up driving around in his convertible (in February!) as it was quite pleasant out and noticeably quiet. As we drove through the marina, Ghiradelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and The Embarcadero, all we saw were empty taxi's and empty public transit. Stores and restaurants looked abandoned at 8:30pm. And we only saw a handful of people walking along the waterfront. It was sort of eerie. Did we miss something last night? Was there a new episode of LOST on tv that everyone was at home watching?
Not to be discouraged by the Golden Gate Bridge mishap, we ventured out to treasure island and snapped some shots. It was quiet there too.. no wind.. just silence. A small crowd gathered the longer we were there.

The most comfortable laptop keyboard ever

A little while ago I was typing on my old Powerbook G4 laptop and realized that typing on that keyboard is simply a pleasure on my wrists and fingertips. For Apple, this is amazing as many of their products are not that ergonomically friendly. But for some reason the keyboards on the Powerbooks (and macbook pros until this year) are my favorite keyboards to type on. It saddened me greatly when I found out they will no longer be putting this keyboard into their macbook pros. It boggles my mind because if I had to choose one keyboard to type on forever it would be the one pictured here.

Tech details (if I can remember): Tripod mounted, 30mm lens at f2.5 for about 4 seconds. And I turned the brightness on the monitor way down to get the correct exposure on the monitor image to match the exposure for the backlit keyboard.

For Christmas, I got a 65mm Macro lens for my camera (thanks mom and dad!!). Unfortunately, I have not gotten to use it much yet as I have been sort of busy. But the other evening, my girlfriend and I enjoyed an excellent bottle of Pinot Noir (Gallo 2005 Sonoma Reserve- for anyone who wants to try it). It was really a very nice bottle of wine and not that expensive. Anyways, I had the cork laying around and decided to play around with my new macro lens.

Tech details: Tripod mounted, available room lighting. 65mm Macro at F25. Whitebalance adjustment, levels adjustment, and burning in photoshop.

This image was taken years ago when I got my first d-SLR camera. I saw this little boy at the Danville car show in Danville, CA, and I had to snap a shot of this moment. For me, this image is all about the moment and the interaction between the boy, the dogs, and the signage in the background. As you read this image with your eye, which part do you see first? What part of the image leads your eye to the next part? How does this story unfold within your eye? I hope the story is different each time you look at it- because that is what makes for interesting photography.
Tech Details: This image was converted to black and white and contrast adjustments were made in CS3. I also gave it a small crop to get rid of some excess space around the edges. The source image was a JPG file (before I was shooting RAW!). I have added this image to the black and white section of my main website.
